In Theatre Arts, we will focus on 4 different skill levels according to the class registered for. All the work we do in this class will be aligned to the Common Core Standards. These standards are skills and knowledge the state expects each student to learn and know.
Theatre Arts 1: Introduction to Theatre Arts is an introductory course on the theatre arts. It covers the historical aspects of theatre and the performance basics. Included in the study are: Historical Greek Theatre, Medeival and Renaissance Theatre, Acting Basics, Introduction to Improvisational Theater, Scene work, and Basic Theatre Movement. This course fulfills the A-F requirement. Theatre Arts 2: The advanced theatre arts class at Merced High School cover all aspects of theatre. The second level Theatre Arts class covers the art of acting - incorporating the skills of improvisation, mime, character analysis, and character portrayal. Theatre Arts 3: The third level of Theatre Arts covers the skills of Technical Theatre including stage make up, set design and construction, lighting design and set up, sound design, stage management, and theatre fly systems. Students in the third level serve as the stage crew for events at the campus theater. Theatre Arts 4: Students in the fourth level of Theatre Arts study directing and stage management. They design and produce several productions and provide leadership for student productions. |
